Echoes of Life

Project Year

2024

Client

Prana

Tasked with crafting a distinctive piece for Prana, Altrincham’s latest bar and independent cocktail venue, the goal was to evoke a sense of awe that captures attention. The result is a trio of kinetic sculpture art pieces, each varying in size and shape, strategically designed to operate mechanically within the premises.

The genesis of Echoes of Life emerged from a desire to craft an interactive marvel that transcends the confines of Prana’s space, beckoning not just visitors but all who chance upon its captivating vista through the bar’s main window.

Drawing inspiration from the rhythmic pulsations of breath, akin to a lung’s undulating cadence, the installation embodies a symphony of motion, echoing the dynamic movements of Bauhaus dance pioneers like Oskar Schlemmer. Infused with the avant-garde spirit epitomised by David Bowie’s iconic jumpsuits, it embodies the ethos of Bauhaus, marrying form and function in a mesmerising display.

In the quest for innovation, exploration delved into the realms of childhood whimsy, where spinning tops, bubble machines, and enchanting wands reign supreme. From these nostalgic musings arose forms imbued with a sense of wonder, evoking the magic, harmony, and organic beauty found in nature’s embrace.

A sculptural ode to movement, a testament to the enduring allure of the human spirit in perpetual dance with the world around it.

Adhering to the bar’s interior style and ambiance, the artwork seamlessly integrates into the space, ensuring a cohesive and immersive experience. In the realm of an Independent Cocktail Bar and live music venue, the significance of exceptional artwork cannot be overstated.

Prana, Altrincham’s sole dedicated music venue, transcends the ordinary. It serves as a sanctuary where the mundane fades away, giving rise to moments of pure delight. Life within Prana is not just lived; it is truly experienced.

Situated on the second floor, the mechanical kinetic sculpture commands a prominent position, serving as a captivating centerpiece. Much like any kinetic art, the Prana installation is a celebration of movement, engaging with both natural and artificial elements, and fostering a dynamic dialogue within the confines of time and space.

Its reliance on movement not only generates intrigue but also allows for dynamic shifts, creating captivating shapes, patterns of light, and mesmerizing reflections. This artistry adds an extra layer of vibrancy, contributing to an immersive and unforgettable experience for patrons.
