“Every year I make a trip down to Salcombe in Devon and spend time on a boat and by the beach. I was inspired by the fisherman and the ferryman’s dog, who spends his whole day on a ferryboat. So, I decided to make a salty sea dog Gerald. His tattoos and scars show his life on the open wave, including an ever changing list of lady friends. I also referenced a previous project called Disabled animals? Fixed! by creating a replacement octopus leg instead of a standard peg leg. Whether he was attacked by an octopus and kept a memento, or is a mutant, who knows?”
