“The eye and lips motifs are a recurrent theme within my work, often representing the gaze, scrutiny, gossip and expectation focused upon celebrities, women, young people and other areas of society. For Gerald, I drew from the many eyes and lips within the works from my series 50 Bucks: Bring On The Sluts, which comprised almost 500 nudes on moleskine paper. The effect of covering Gerald in eyes and lips serves to confuse him anatomically, and to present him as both the bearer and receiver of the gaze.”
