Gerald Statement

“When asked to produce the first of the two Geralds I have made it was Autumn, so I looked no further than the world outside my window. I took inspiration from the surroundings at the time. Deciding to explore the colour, shape and texture for a more abstract pattern. I initially I thought of how I could use the shape of the animal and play with that, but I found the three dimensional object and its construction really difficult to grasp. The more I tried to figure what went were and how I could use that, the more I came unstuck. So I decided to go another way, leaving the characterisation and turning to abstraction and colour, hoping the final work would resemble a huge pile of fallen leaves.”
