On Wednesday 10th June, the Lazerian team was delighted to attend a special celebration at Manchester Airport marking the completion of Atmospheric Reflections of the North, our new landmark installation suspended within Terminal 2.

The event brought together many of the Manchester Airport colleagues, partners, contractors and project teams who have helped deliver the airport’s ambitious transformation programme. It was an opportunity to recognise the collective effort behind not only the artwork itself but the wider redevelopment of Terminal 2.

As guests gathered beneath the completed installation, speeches were given by Lazerian founder and artist Liam Hopkins and Manchester Airport Managing Director Chris Woodroofe. Liam spoke about the inspiration behind the work, reflecting on how the sculpture reimagines Manchester Airport’s iconic chandeliers while celebrating the airport’s unique heritage, from the city’s ever-changing skies to the parachute training that once took place at RAF Ringway.

Chris Woodroofe highlighted the importance of the project within the wider Terminal 2 transformation, recognising the many individuals and teams who have contributed to creating a world-class airport experience for millions of passengers.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was a specially commissioned cake featuring imagery of the artwork itself. Guests enjoyed a slice while taking time to view the installation from below, offering a chance to reflect on the journey that has brought the project from concept to reality.

Throughout the event, photographers and videographers captured the occasion, documenting not only the sculpture but also the people behind it. These moments will help preserve the story of a project that has been several years in the making and involved countless hours of collaboration, design development, engineering and fabrication.

For Lazerian, the celebration represented an important milestone. What began as a conversation about the future of Manchester Airport’s historic chandeliers evolved into a major public artwork that now spans the departures hall of Terminal 2. Inspired by clouds, rainfall and parachutes, Atmospheric Reflections of the North combines hundreds of suspended elements to create a dynamic landscape of colour and movement that welcomes passengers as they begin their journeys.

The project has been about more than creating a sculpture. It has been about honouring Manchester Airport’s history, preserving memories associated with the original chandeliers and transforming those stories into something new for future generations to experience.

Standing beneath the completed installation alongside so many of the people who helped make it happen was a proud moment for everyone involved.
